Wesley Dean “George” Wichman was born March 24, 1938 in Nodaway Township northwest of Clarinda on the family farm. He passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in Red, Iowa at the age of 72 years. Wesley lived within one mile of his birthplace all but six months of his life. He attended Butler School then McCunn School. When he was finished with school he started working for uncle Mervil Sunderman. Wesley then worked for the Geer family. He also drove a raw milk truck for Borden’s to Kansas City and also worked at Hi-Grade Meat. He worked for McCunn Implement, Hartstack Trucking, Hopkins Elevator and farmed and trucked throughout his life. Wesley had to give up farming when his health became a problem in the last few years. Wesley enjoyed golfing, his John Deere tractor collection, and deer hunting with his family and friends. He celebrated his 72nd birthday in March and the day was a good remembrance for all the family. Farming, trucking, church and golf are the four things which he particularly enjoyed. Wesley was baptized April 3, 1938 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown, IA and was confirmed May 25, 1952 at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda, IA. He married Gail Kirchner September 25, 1960 at Immanuel Lutheran Church and the couple has three daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents Ethel (Sump) and William Wichman, mother and father-in-law Walter and Nevada Kirchner, and grandson Brannon Harvey. He is survived by his wife, Gail of Clarinda, daughters Charnette Harvey & husband Mark of Clarinda, Michelle Varley and husband Gregg of Liberty, MO, and Pam Judkins and husband Jeff of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren Jared & Matthew Varley and Justin & Jake Judkins; brothers Glen Wichman and wife Caroline of Clarinda, and Darrel Wichman and wife Jean of Clarinda, sister Edith Rebhuhn and husband Lyle of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Nancy Rutz and husband Tim of San Antonio, TX; and aunt, Elnora Sump of Clarinda. |
