Daniel D. Logan, 93, was born February 2, 1917 in Clarinda, Iowa, to Henry A. (Dutch) Logan and Hazel Lorraine (Bell) Logan. He was a graduate of Clarinda High school, Class of 1934, and Clarinda Junior College. Dan had Professional Photography training on the YALE Campus. On November 26, 1939, he married June Knowles in the Clarinda Methodist Church. Following their marriage, Dan and June lived in Fort Morgan, Colorado, running Logan’s Studio until 1943. In 1943 and 1944 they were in Washington D.C. where Dan was a photographer for the F.B.I. December of 1944 to December of 1946 Dan served as an Army Field Artillery Officer, 2nd Lieutenant in Berlin. Dan returned to Clarinda following discharge from the service and joined his father in Logan’s Studio. Dan and June had two daughters Sandra Claypool and Susan Logan. In his youth, Dan was a member of the Boys Scouts and was the second Eagle Scout in Clarinda. As an adult he served in the community of Clarinda in a variety of ways by participating on numerous boards and committees. He was a past president of the Lions Club having received the Lions Club Community Service Award in 1954; was a 66 year member of the Nodaway Lodge service as secretary from 1987-2008. He was also a member of the Ambassador and RSVP. His commitment to Boy Scouts continued throughout his lifetime. His last service to the scouts was at the age of 92 when he spoke during an Eagle Scout presentation. He passed away July 9, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents Dutch and Hazel Logan and his wife of 68 years, June. Dan is survived by his daughters Sandra Claypool and husband Roger of New Hampton, Iowa and Susan Logan of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Jeff Claypool and wife Kim of Ottumwa, Iowa, Jeree Svec and husband Bob of New Hampton, Iowa, Dan Claypool and wife Mind y of Wildwood, MO; great grandchildren Abby, Samantha, Morgan, Alison Claypool and Trevor Svec. Funeral services for Dan Logan, 93 of Clarinda, were held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Clarinda with burial at the Clarinda Cemetery with military rites given there by American Legion Sergy Post #98 of Clarinda. Memorials are suggested to the Nodaway Lodge No. 140 or Iowa Hospice.
Memorial services for Daniel Logan, 93 of Clarinda, will be held 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Clarinda. Interment will be prior to the service. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Masonic Services at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangemetns. |
