Funeral services for Josephine “Josie” Brittain, age 50, of Clarinda, Iowa, who entered into peace following a courageous battle with cancer Monday, July 5, 2010 at Clarinda Regional health Center, Clarinda, Iowa were held Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Daryl Tompkins officiating. Visitation with the family was held Friday, July 9, 2010, 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in the Oak grove Cemetery, rural Clarinda, Iowa. Josephine Llanes Brittain was born March 19, 1960 in Manila, Philippines. She was the daughter of Prudencio Llanes and Librada (Belen) Llanes. She was the second of six children. Josie grew up in the Philippines where she graduated from high school and attended college for two years. She also received her nursing degree. On April 1, 1987, Josie was untied in marriage to Mark Brittain in the Philippines. They were blessed with one son, Kiel.
Josie was an L.P.N. and had worked at WestRidge Care and Rehab Center and at the Mental Health institute in Clarinda. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda. Josie enjoyed gardening, crocheting and cooking especially barbecuing.
Preceding Josie in death was her sister, Marilou Llanes.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Mark Brittain of Clarinda, Iowa; son, Kiel Brittain of Clarinda, Iowa; step-son, Kenyon Brittain of Wayne, Neb.; step-grandson, Dominic Brittain of Red Oak, Iowa; parents, Prudencio and Librada Llanes of the Philippines; brothers, George Llanes and wife Jean of the Philippines; Prudencio Llanes, Jr. and wife Emy of Singapore; sisters, Edna Bachecha and husband Edward of Alberta, Canada and Gloria Cortezano and husband Jerome of Saudi Arabia; nieces; nephews; and many, many friends.
Josie was a very caring nurse and friend and will be missed by her family and many friends. Her love, inspiration and memory will live on in their hearts.
